So Monday evening I took a trip to photograph The Thames Barrier. In fact it was the first time i had been there but was pleasantly surprised on what a great location the Barriers are set in as well as being a very quiet location in which to set up my Camera and tripod and wait for the Sun to go down. Normally people see you set up and either start talking to me or start taking photographs over my shoulder thinking I must be in the best photo location spot ever……. but in this location it was very quiet. Just got approached by a security man as I was on Private property enquiring as to whether i was a pro or not. sorry had to lie which i hate to do but i would not have got the shot i wanted if i didn’t tell him a little white lie.

As the sun went down and the lights of the barrier got powered up I started to see and explore the best speed timings for the shots I thought I wanted. I used a Lee ND 0.6 Grad filter on the water as well as a Lee Tobacco hard filter to give the sky a darker appearance as well as trying to get the slowest shutter speed i could in order to get that blurry water effect.

I am pretty happy with the three images i got at different angles and the two images of the tunnel shots at the end of the barrier. Myself and my friend and fellow photographer Alex also had a look around other great possible locations on the other side of the barrier and decided we would have to return to shoot other angles of the Barrier as well as Canary Wharf.

Watch out for more images as and when we do them.
